On a peaceful morning, we set out from Vadodara at 9 AM to explore two beautiful spiritual sites: Borsad Sun Temple and Manilaxmi Tirth, both of which have always captivated us. Having visited Manilaxmi Tirth five times already, we were eager to experience it once again. This time, we planned to stay the night there as well.

Stop 1: Borsad Sun Temple:

Our first destination was the Borsad Sun Temple, just 52 KM from Vadodara, a serene and beautifully maintained site. The temple is surrounded by a vast parking area and lush plantations, making it a perfect place for a short visit.

As we walked around the temple, we noticed the unique signs representing Sagittarius, Cancer, Capricorn, and other astrological symbols, along with the 7 horses welcome statue at the top of temple, which added a layer of cosmic spirituality to the temple. These signs are prominently visible as we do a traditional parikrama (circumambulation) around the temple.

The experience at the Sun Temple was tranquil, offering a brief yet profound connection to divine energies. It’s a small but spiritually enriching stop, perfect for those seeking quiet reflection. We had our packed lunch there in the shadow of big trees.

Stop 2: Manilaxmi Tirth:

Next, we headed towards Manilaxmi Tirth which was just 21 KM from our earlier destination, a familiar place with an equally special feel each time we visit. The Jain temple here is an architectural marvel, reflecting a peaceful and spiritual ambiance. It’s a place that instantly feels like a haven for those on a religious journey.

One of the most convenient aspects of Manilaxmi Tirth is its Bhojanshala (dining hall), where we enjoyed a satvik meal for just Rs. 150 per person. The food is not only hygienic but also light, less oily, and perfectly suited for those seeking a simple yet delicious meal. Meals here are always satisfying, and they cater to the needs of everyone with utmost care.

Kid-Friendly Spaces:

Manilaxmi Tirth is also very welcoming for families. There's a kids' play area with two toy trains that give a lovely ride around the periphery of the temple grounds. The toy train ride is a favorite for the kids, and the best part—it’s free! It allows visitors to enjoy a complete tour of the beautiful surroundings in a fun and relaxed manner.

Accommodations at Manilaxmi Tirth:

As for accommodation, the Tirth offers three Dharmshalas—one old and two newly built. One of the new Dharmshalas is designed in a building format, while the other is cottage-shaped, giving it a resort-like appearance. However, don't expect luxury services here—there's no room service, no phones in the rooms, and no toiletries or towels, so it’s essential to pack these essentials when planning your stay.

Staying the night here was comfortable, thanks to the serene environment, though the absence of some conveniences like toiletries reminded us to always be prepared when traveling. Also, only Jains are allowed to stay overnight at the Dharmshala, though anyone is welcome to enjoy the food without any restrictions on caste or creed.

Here are some travel tips for visiting Borsad Sun Temple and Manilaxmi Tirth:

Borsad Sun Temple

  1. Best Time to Visit: Early mornings are ideal to avoid the heat and crowds. The temple is relatively small, so a morning visit is sufficient to experience its tranquility.

  2. Dress Code: Wear comfortable, modest clothing. Since it’s a religious site, respectful attire is appreciated.

  3. Parking: There is ample parking available. However, it can get busy, so arriving early is a good idea to secure a good spot.

  4. Carry Essentials: Bring water and snacks, as there are limited options nearby. Make sure to stay hydrated, especially if visiting during warmer months.

  5. Photography: Check the temple’s policy on photography. Some places may have restrictions, so it’s best to ask beforehand.

  6. Health and Comfort: The temple area is well-maintained, but comfortable footwear is recommended as you’ll be walking around during the parikrama.

Manilaxmi Tirth

  1. Accommodation Booking: If you plan to stay overnight, book your Dharmshala in advance. Only Jains are allowed to stay overnight, so ensure that your booking is confirmed.

  2. Toiletries and Essentials: Since the Dharmshala does not provide toiletries, towels, or room service, bring your own. This includes essentials like soap, shampoo, and a towel.

  3. Food: The Bhojanshala provides meals for a fixed price. Timing is crucial, so check meal hours and plan accordingly. Meals are hygienic and reasonably priced.

  4. Kid-Friendly Activities: The toy train rides and kids' play area are great for children. Ensure your kids are supervised while enjoying these activities.

  5. Weather and Clothing: The weather can vary, so dress in layers and bring a jacket if you’re staying overnight. Evenings can be cooler.

  6. Travel Light: Since the accommodation is simple, travel light and bring only what you need for a comfortable stay.

  7. Local Transportation: If you’re relying on public transport or cabs, confirm the availability and schedule beforehand. Private vehicles are more convenient for this trip.

  8. Health Precautions: Carry basic first aid supplies and any personal medications. The serene environment can be very refreshing, but it’s always good to be prepared.

  9. Respect Local Customs: Be mindful of local customs and practices. Following the rules and showing respect enhances your overall experience.

  10. Parking: Similar to Borsad Sun Temple, parking is ample but can get busy. Arrive early to avoid the rush.

These tips should help ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit to both spiritual sites!

Conclusion:

The trip was a peaceful spiritual retreat that left us feeling refreshed and centered. Both sites offered their own unique experiences—Borsad Sun Temple with its cosmic symbolism and Manilaxmi Tirth with its welcoming atmosphere, good food, and family-friendly amenities. After a restful night at the Dharmshala and a hearty breakfast, we made our way back to Vadodara, feeling spiritually fulfilled.
